Although the remote Mount Khuiten and the Altai Mountains of Mongolia offer straight forward trekking and climbing, as usual in the mountains the weather can have a significant influence on summit plans. Extremely hot days can give way to stormy weather and heavy snow accumulations.
Wind chill rating: Medium
Gear can be carried in on horseback or by camels to the Potanin glacier base camp. Then it's on foot with heavy loads to the high camp several hours up the glacier. Gear should be selected that is both warm enough and as light as possible. The equipment selected here is for the normal expedition seasons of July/August and September.
