These are the minimum temperatures you can expect. One expedition in March 2007 recorded -50°C inside their tent. It will get progressively warmer through April into May. Humidity on the Arctic ice is high. This (combined with the fact that you are setting out with little daylight) means that: a) it feels very cold, b) you need to protect your gear (particularly your sleeping bag) from moisture and ice build-up.

The geographical North Pole remains a serious undertaking which demands a careful approach to gear selection to ensure security without overloading your sled. We have listed the most suitable sleeping bags and clothing in our standard range. However, we have also put together a special set of options and modifications specifically for the North Pole which we will be happy to discuss with you - VBLs for clothing as well as sleeping bags, synthetic jackets, fur ruffs etc.

Synthetic sleeping bags are often recommended for the North Pole on account of the high humidity levels. However, ice builds up inside synthetic wadding just as it does in down (some of the heaviest build-ups have occurred in synthetic gear) unless the filling is protected by a proper VBL system. The bags we are listing are down filled with various VBL options. Extra length is advised on bags for storing vital items at night.
