Description:

Also available in custom sizes. We make clothing to order, so if you’re not a standard size we can make it to fit. To order a non-standard custom size, select the Custom Sizing tab, choose your body width, and then the body/arm lengths, shorter or longer, that work for you. A custom size takes us a little longer (typically two weeks longer) to make and, because it’s personalized, it’s non-returnable and our customer loyalty scheme can’t be applied.

The combination of Ventile® and down has long been appreciated by Polar explorers in the Arctic and the Antarctic, where the effective weather protection, reassuring warmth and exceptional breathability combine to great effect. This has also made it a favourite with wildlife cameramen, commuters in the coldest cities, and many others who simply prefer the natural, rustle-free qualities of traditional outdoor fabrics, the way they were before the introduction of ripstop nylon and Gore Tex.

The Asgard Jacket, with its reassuring weight and Typical Operating Temperature rating of -30°C (-22°F), is one of the two warmest “box-wall” Ventile and Down Jacket in the world, and the choice for the worst Polar conditions, where it is capable of withstanding extreme, inhospitable cold. The detachable down filled hood adds versatility, whilst the chest pocket, hand-warmer pockets and shock-cord hem are designed to keep the worst of the cold weather out. The insulated double front baffle and waist pockets are finished with button fasteners.

For those unfamiliar with Ventile®, this is the original technical all-weather fabric. Those who do know it will recognise the beauty which lies in its combination of breathability, dependability and a quiet, soft handle. At PHD, we’ve been using Ventile® to make down clothing for 20 years, and here in our Ventile® Outwear collection we’re able to look beyond making the latest weight-saving innovations and embrace the broader possibilities of these beautiful 100% cotton fabrics.

Windproof Ventile outer fabric (weight: 170 gsm)

Ventile®, originally designed in the UK, is densely woven from 100% cotton using the world's finest long staple fibre.

Ventile® is not coated or laminated yet the combination of the dense weave and the swelling properties of the fibres when wet provide excellent weatherproofing.

It is an entirely natural product that offers a unique level of comfort, look and feel as well as being windproof, highly breathable, very durable and quiet.

Superlight MX fabric (weight: 32 gsm)

A mini-ripstop nylon with excellent tear strength, MX is the pick of the superfine 15 denier downproof materials. We have tested lighter fabrics, but most have had significant drawbacks, while our confidence in MX is based on several years of extensive use in both our ultralight and our high mountain gear.

900 Fillpower Down

European goose down of very high quality. A truly excellent down with large clusters, consistent quality and lively long-term performance. More on our down insulation.
