A backpackers’ quilt with adjustable width control and a closed footbox, offering freedom of movement and temperature control.
The measurements in the tables below are personal body measurements.
Designed for thru-hikers and long-distance trail walkers, the Icelandic Backpackers' Quilt is a variable-width alternative to a mummy-shaped sleeping bag. It offers superb temperature control and, being cut wide for wriggle room, is ideal for side sleepers and for stomach sleepers.
Three attachment loops down each side work with bungee corded toggles to attach the quilt to a sleeping bag pad to manage the variable width system. This allows you to narrow the quilt on cold nights and widen the quilt on warm nights giving you more room to move around.
The lightweight MX fabric used throughout is super-soft and comfy against the skin and so light it allows maximum lofting of our super high-quality 950 fill power down. The box-wall construction further enhances the loft, and the generous collar with an elasticated cord lock cinch seals in warmth above the shoulders.
The outer fabric can be upgraded to water-resistant Ultrashell (condensation can be very heavy inside a tent or tarp) and, because dampness at the foot end is so often the consequence of touching the inside of a tent, an optional waterproof foot cover can be specified for extra protection. This can be sewn on or – so you can detach it and strip the bag right down for super-minimalist overnights – we can make it stud-on: it’s up to you.
In use, the Icelandic Backpackers Quilt requires additional considerations.
One of the lightest of PHD's coated materials. This ripstop nylon provides complete wind block and good water resistance at minimal weight. Ultrashell gives an excellent upgrade to performance with very little weight penalty.
10X, PHD's first 10 Denier Fabric. 9,000 metres of the yarn used to weave 10X weighs just 10g, that's about the same as a £1 coin! For all its thinness 10X is amazingly downproof and with reasonable care will go on giving you good service for years.
A newcomer to our range. European goose of rare quality. A high value alternative at the top levels of performance. More on our down insulation.
