Alpamayo Waterproof Smock

The material has a soft feel and even on the really wet days kept me perfectly dry ... I considered many lightweight jackets/smocks but am pleased that I chose the Alpamayo.

Description:

Also available in custom sizes. We make clothing to order, so if you’re not a standard size we can make it to fit. To order a non-standard custom size, select the Custom Sizing tab, choose your body width, and then the body/arm lengths, shorter or longer, that work for you. A custom size takes us a little longer (typically two weeks longer) to make and, because it’s personalized, it’s non-returnable and our customer loyalty scheme can’t be applied.

At only 330g, the Alpamayo Smock is a real lightweight, offering excellent weather protection over a down jacket. The cut is generous, to go over a lightweight jacket such as the Minimus K or Yukon Jacket. The short front YKK Aquaseal zip, and a large wired hood ensure that our HS3 fabric delivers top-level performance. The small chest pocket will take a GPS with ease.

A new take on a (good) old idea and altogether a pleasure to take on the hill with you.

Also available as a jacket.

Waterproof HS3 outer fabric (weight: 115 gsm)

HS3 is a 3-layer laminate, the new fabric for our Alpamayo shell gear. The old argument that a 2-layer fabric with a separate mesh inner was both more flexible and more breathable than a 3-layer has been overtaken by the performance of current 3-layers such as HS3. This new ripstop fabric also removes the disadvantages of mesh (which snags on velcro and can form an ice-trap in extreme cold) and makes the gear considerably lighter. HS3 is fully waterproof and offers excellent breathability.

YKK AquaSeal® zips

Successfully used for years on dry suits and marine sportswear, these AquaSeal® zips are the only fully waterproof zips we know light enough for clothing. No rain flaps are needed.

"The hood is properly adjusted and is probably the best hood I have used on a waterproof jacket. The wire frame is tough and the hood is easily adjusted by an adjuster at the read and my two adjustable toggles on the base. The smock cuffs feature very tough and solid Velcro adjusters. Everything about the construction is very solid and the smock oozes quality. The fabric is not thin but is smooth to the touch. A first rate piece of kit that simply won’t let you down. In the use the smock is totally waterproof and windproof without being heavy."

"It is fantastic!"

"This feels like a winter smock to me, the HS3 is a supple mid-weight laminated fabric with a soft-touch inner scrim. The hood is a cracker, a good fit on my napper. I think this looks like a good option, especially if the fabric does its part, it's got clean lines, just the features you need and hey, it’s orange."
Petesy (a.k.a. Peter Macfarlane).

"The material has a soft feel and even on the really wet days kept me perfectly dry. Breathability is good as I never once noticed any wetting up inside; even when working hard going uphill in the wind and rain. I especially like the length of the Alpamayo, and although it only weighs 425 grams, it is a full four season jacket. I considered many lightweight jackets/smocks but am pleased that I chose the Alpamayo. Other jackets may be lighter, but, in my view, they don't match up to the Alpamayo for specifications and performance."
