If ordinary mummy shaped sleeping bags don’t quite match up to your idea of comfort, our range of semi-rectangular bags may be just what you’re looking for. Side sleepers and those who appreciate plenty of manoeuvring space will find these roomy bags less claustrophobic, allowing the independent movement a restless sleeper prefers.

Using all the advantages gained from our lightweight fabrics, and the benefits of our high-quality 900 fill power down, these semi-rectangular bags give the efficiency of a mummy sleeping bag with the ease and space of a quilt. You’ll find no cold air creeping in and no string to set up, just the enclosed warmth, width and wriggle room for a relaxed night.

The Greenlandic 400 – a hooded semi-rectangular bag – is made in a combination of water-resistant Ultrashell outer fabric and rare 900 fill-power, giving it true lightweight capabilities.

Made to order and by hand, this bag comes with short, standard and long length options, as well as slim, standard and wide width options, so you get the perfect fit and the best possible warmth to weight ratio. And, as we are making these sleeping bags to order, you can select either short or full-length side-zips on the left or right sides.

A race recovery night with extra comfort, or a longer adventure with style. What you waiting for?

Dispatch time: As with all PHD products, these are made to order and by hand. We estimate it will take us around 4 to 6 weeks to make and dispatch sale orders. During busy periods it may take a little longer.

Ultrashell (weight: 40 gsm)

One of the lightest of PHD's coated materials. This ripstop nylon provides complete wind block and good water resistance at minimal weight. Ultrashell gives an excellent upgrade to performance with very little weight penalty.

Lightweight M1 fabric (weight: 39 gsm)

Lightweight silky microfibre. This close-weave 20 denier fabric is fully downproof, but also light and flexible enough to allow the down full loft. A reliable performer that has been the basis for much of our lightweight gear for some time.

Sleeping bag zips

  • No zip: The standard design on our lightest bags with open hoods. The simplest/lightest system which is a must for adventure racers. Up to 140gm (5oz) lighter than a full zip with draft tube.
  • Full zips: Full zip bags ventilate well, so they can be used over a wider range of temperatures.
  • Short zips: Short zips are lighter and pack smaller than full zips. A short zip & draft tube is up to 85gm (3oz) lighter than the full version.

900 Fillpower Down

European goose down of very high quality. A truly excellent down with large clusters, consistent quality and lively long-term performance. More on our down insulation.

This bag has an insulating straight wall baffle system throughout (no straight-through stitching). Straight wall is the lightest of all baffle sytems. In cross section it looks like this:

More on sleeping bag construction.

"It’s a superbly warm bag for its weight. I ordered a long length and find it a real pleasure to finally have a bag that I don’t find my head poking out of in the night. It's a rare treat to feel able to carry enough kit to 'snuggle down' into, whilst still being lightweight and small enough to be of little consequence. The width gives plenty of room to move hips and legs and I don’t have the restricted feeling of other bags. It’s the best bag I've ever owned and I'm happy with it."
Matthew Geyman using a Greenlandic 400

"Worked brilliantly. Great product and did not disappoint."
Arwel Hughes using a Greenlandic 400 in Nepal

"It’s beautiful! Incredibly warm. The real plus for me is the width. Being able to wriggle around makes a huge difference to me. I’m not large but after activity, stiffness sets in and a small, tight bag can be uncomfortable. I’ve now got five PHD items now and thrilled with them all!"
