Description

A lighter version of our Primaloft Kappa Jacket. A truly versatile crossover jacket, at home on our own local mountains, skiing or any active cold/damp mountain sport.

Excellent protection is provided by the lightweight water-resistant Ultrashell outer and quick body warmth by Primaloft Gold® insulation, which will retain much of its insulation when it's wet. It also works well when you're already soaked and simply want a warm-up jacket to shift the chill.

The Kappa's two zipped handwarmers make it a pleasure to wear round camp, while the hood and the two chest pockets (one out & one inside) are the extra technical features climbers need.

Insulation is Primaloft Gold® (100gr throughout).

29% less than our standard version.

Dispatch time: As with most PHD products, these are made to order and by hand. We estimate it will take us around 20 working days to make and dispatch sale orders. During busy periods it may take a little longer.

Technical

Ultrashell (weight: 40gsm)

The lightest of PHD's coated materials. This ripstop nylon provides complete wind block and good water resistance at minimal weight. Ultrashell gives an excellent upgrade to performance with very little weight penalty. Order samples of this fabric & just pay the postage.

Superlight MX fabric (weight: 32 gsm)

A mini-ripstop nylon with excellent tear strength, MX is the pick of the superfine 15 denier downproof materials. We have tested lighter fabrics, but most have had significant drawbacks, while our confidence in MX is based on several years of extensive use in both our ultralight and our high mountain gear. Order samples of this fabric & just pay the postage.

Primaloft Gold®

Primaloft Gold® is the ideal microfibre insulation. Ultrafine fibres produce an insulating core that is incredibly soft, lightweight and water resistant. In our experience it absorbs water much more slowly than other waddings, a marked advantage in wet-cold conditions.

The nearest of the synthetics to the feel of down, yet tougher than you would expect. Primaloft Gold® offers the best warmth/weight performance in the Primaloft range

If you find that you fall between (or across) these sizings, please contact us and we will quote you for modifications needed. Modifications cannot be made to sale items, bargain box items or other products not offered at full price. Comments for standard Kappa Jacket, which is 150g heavier

"I've worn this jacket for the past nine months and it's seen use from Scottish winters to Makalu in Nepal to the mountains of Kenya. It's been worn in all conditions, from rock- and ice-climbing to heavy snow. Despite being very lightweight it really is bombproof, and it has taken a lot of battering and scraping so far. The Primaloft insulation has kept me perfectly warm too."
Adele Pennington, AMI instructor and Expedition Leader for Jagged Globe, Trail Gear Guide.

"[The Jacket] performed wonderfully, I skied and climbed and slept in it, and it was both warm and almost weightless."
Janey King (a.k.a. Rosie Thomas), British Shackleton Traverse over South Georgia.

"I was very, very impressed with the jacket. In the more exposed areas or when travelling fast I could feel the coldness of the air pressing on my arms (not leaking through the fabric), but I never got chilled. It is hard to describe, it's a bit like holding an iced drink in your hand - you can feel the glass is cold but you don't get cold yourself.

The fit, especially around the neck, was loose enough to cope with under layers and balaclavas but never let in draughts either. Body length and sleeve length were good too - just about long enough to cover most of my backside and sleeves never got close to riding up far enough to expose my wrists etc. The hood and ruff work well too. It is plenty big enough to go over all my hat layers and the ruff did a good job of blocking the wind / catching the ice in my breath.

I really appreciated the fact that the outer is almost a separate jacket and it is not stitched through to the insulation. This seemed to add a whole new dimension to its protection, warmth and weather resistance. This is a very, very good jacket.

I've owned many over the years but I have never had one that can cope with such a variety of awful conditions, that is this warm and light but that does not sweat up inside either. This combination of fabrics, insulation, cut and fit is as near perfect as I can imagine. It stood up well to both the elements (down to -25C) and physical wear and tear very well indeed."
