Description:

In a blizzard, adding warm layers is straightforward above the waist, but a real challenge below, especially when wearing skis or crampons. This is the problem our Quickdraw Insulated Trousers are designed to solve.

The PHD Quickdraw System is most useful when you can’t simply pull trousers over your boots. Think ski-mountaineering, nordic skiing, polar expeditions and high altitude mountaineering in crampons. Our Quickdraw Insulated Trousers are designed to be fitted quickly without removing crampons or skis, and are especially valuable in extreme cold and wind, helping prevent rapid heat loss.

The PHD Quickdraw System works by using an internal hold-belt to secure the trousers at the waist so they can’t blow away. Then, the colour-coded side tabs and front-liner fabric make hanging the front of the trousers at the waist easy to do. Finally, the side zips can be quickly closed and the front stretch-cord adjusted to get the perfect fit.

A reliable, rapid system when you’re caught in a blizzard or facing the teeth of a gale.

  • Step one: Do-up the waist-level hold-belt.
  • Step two: Locate the colour-coded front inner of the trousers and attach to the colour coded side tabs.
  • Step three: Close the side zips.
  • Step four: Adjust the waist cord to fit.

Water-resistant Drishell outer fabric (weight: 54 gsm)

Ripstop nylon with an ultralight coating: achieves total windblock, along with high breathability and superior water resistance. Superbly efficient for a very light overall fabric weight.

Superlight MX fabric (weight: 32 gsm)

A mini-ripstop nylon with excellent tear strength, MX is the pick of the superfine 15 denier downproof materials. We have tested lighter fabrics, but most have had significant drawbacks, while our confidence in MX is based on several years of extensive use in both our ultralight and our high mountain gear.

Primaloft Gold®

Primaloft Gold® is the ideal microfibre insulation. Ultrafine fibres produce an insulating core that is incredibly soft, lightweight and water resistant. In our experience it absorbs water much more slowly than other waddings, a marked advantage in wet-cold conditions.

The nearest of the synthetics to the feel of down, yet tougher than you would expect. Primaloft Gold® offers the best warmth/weight performance in the Primaloft range
