Description

With a combination of Primaloft Gold® insulation, our lightweight MX fabric, light zips, and a simple design, this synthetic filled Vest is the right piece of kit when it's going to be cold and damp.

In our experience the 100grm/m Primaloft Gold® synthetic insulation absorbs water much more slowly than other synthetic waddings, a marked advantage in cold, wet conditions.

Optional Ultrashell Outer

The lightest of PHD's coated materials. This ripstop nylon provides complete wind block and good water resistance at minimal weight. Ultrashell gives an excellent upgrade to performance with very little weight penalty. Weight 40grm/m.

Technical

Ultrashell (weight: 40gsm)

The lightest of PHD's coated materials. This ripstop nylon provides complete wind block and good water resistance at minimal weight. Ultrashell gives an excellent upgrade to performance with very little weight penalty. Order samples of this fabric & just pay the postage.

Superlight MX fabric (weight: 32 gsm)

A mini-ripstop nylon with excellent tear strength, MX is the pick of the superfine 15 denier downproof materials. We have tested lighter fabrics, but most have had significant drawbacks, while our confidence in MX is based on several years of extensive use in both our ultralight and our high mountain gear. Order samples of this fabric & just pay the postage.

Primaloft Gold®

Primaloft Gold® is the ideal microfibre insulation. Ultrafine fibres produce an insulating core that is incredibly soft, lightweight and water resistant. In our experience it absorbs water much more slowly than other waddings, a marked advantage in wet-cold conditions.

The nearest of the synthetics to the feel of down, yet tougher than you would expect. Primaloft Gold® offers the best warmth/weight performance in the Primaloft range

Sizing

Standard clothing sizing chart

Weight shown is for medium (M) size.

The PHD Sizing Chart below is based on measurements without clothing, exactly the way you would buy a shirt, a sweater or a pair of trousers. A 42" (107cm) chest means that your bare chest uninflated measures 42". Inside Arm is measured from armpit to wrist-bone and Inside Leg from crutch to ankle bone. If you find that you fall between (or across) these sizings, please contact us and we will quote you for modifications needed. Modifications cannot be made to sale items, bargain box items or other products not offered at full price. And if you are supplying us with your measurements, it is always useful for us to know your height, even when you are only buying a jacket.

Reviews

"I have been using this for about a year in a full range of weather conditions, and it has proved to be an exceptionally versatile piece of kit. Whether as insulation for UK summer mountain conditions (as a much lighter alternative than a jacket or pull-on), or as backup or emergency use alongside a belay jacket in winter, or a sleeping bag booster, or (increasingly) just something thrown on for everyday use, its usefulness goes far beyond what might be expected of such an apparently simple vest. The design and cut make it exceptionally light for the level of insulation it gives compared with other Primaloft garments I have used. With the hood, it has been extremely welcome in some unexpectedly cold conditions, though its packed size and weight make in barely noticeable in a rucksack. One thing that really stands out is the level of 'loft' the design allows, which makes a real difference at the level of performance compared to other manufacturers' garments that on paper look similar. The workmanship and quality of the materials are flawless."
