SummerLite Down Jacket

"At a whisker under 150g, the SumerLite is lighter than micro-baffled equivalents like MHW's Ghost Whisperer, but the combination of 1000 down (pretty much as lofty as you can naturally get down to be) and larger baffles - technically down channels - means it feels significantly warmer. It gives proper instant down warmth after you extract it from a package that's little bigger than a largish apple. And of course it's windproof too.

At a weight that's less than half of a typical fleece jacket, but with loads more insulation value, it looks like a brilliant option for portable, packable warmth for stops and evening campsite or hut use.

I tested it 'in situ' at Richtersveld Wildrun in South Africa and at the Ultra Skymarathon, Madeira.

On first impressions it's difficult to believe that when one looks at it compressed in a small stuff sack it could possibly be a down jacket.

The inner fabric is silky smooth and a pleasure to wear against the skin. I wore the jacket with just a t-shirt underneath and found it really comfortable.

It may be light but it's warm, really warm. Let's be realistic, it's not for polar conditions. But if you need a warm layer to protect against morning or evening chill, daily colder or cooler temperatures or an additional warmth layer to be added under a Gore-Tex (or similar) or windproof jacket, it's the perfect choice.
