Yukon Hoody Down Jacket
The Yukon Hoody is by far the most versatile down jacket I’ve ever used. It’s so light and warm that I use it as both a summer and winter insulating layer.

It was Jon Griffith who first asked us to develop a warmer Yukon jacket for his Alaskan Mt Hunter Expedition of 2015. Jon then went on to use this jacket all over the world.

Compared with our standard Yukon Jacket, the Yukon Hoody benefits from:

  • an increased level of insulation
  • a grown-on hood, and
  • an inner ‘expedition-style’ water bottle pocket.

The design tweaks proved so successful in hard conditions, and for the high-altitude photographic work Jon is so well known for, that Jon is now onto his second Yukon Hoody!

The box-wall construction and rare 950 fillpower down gives the jacket a remarkable warmth for weight ratio—in fact the Yukon Hoody is the lightest −20ºC jacket in our range.

Its exceptionally light weight hasn’t compromised the jacket’s performance in other ways. It has a windproof, water-shedding outer; a grown-on hood; and other expedition features.

Ultrashell (weight: 40 gsm)

One of the lightest of PHD's coated materials. This ripstop nylon provides complete wind block and good water resistance at minimal weight. Ultrashell gives an excellent upgrade to performance with very little weight penalty.

Ultralight 10X fabric (weight: 26 gsm)

10X, PHD's first 10 Denier Fabric. 9,000 metres of the yarn used to weave 10X weighs just 10g, that's about the same as a £1 coin! For all its thinness 10X is amazingly downproof and with reasonable care will go on giving you good service for years.

950 fillpower down

A newcomer to our range. European goose of rare quality. A high value alternative at the top levels of performance. More on our down insulation.

The Yukon Hoody is by far the most versatile down jacket I’ve ever used. It’s so light and warm that I use it as both a summer and winter insulating layer. It’s warm enough for winter, but so light, and packs away so small, that I still haven’t found a decent summer layer that’s lighter. It’s kept me warm through countless belays and bivvies in winter in the Alps, and I even wore it on the summit of Everest. I think my first Yukon lasted 5 expeditions and about 6 years of continuous use out in the European Alps until it finally succumbed to wear and tear—incredible for ‘light and fast’ gear. If you find yourself suffering from the cold because you’re sick of big and heavy insulated layers in your backpack then just get yourself a Yukon Hoody.
