The traditional period for climbing and trekking this region is in the middle of the cold and sunny Bolivian winter. A lot of the superb mountains are centred close to La Paz, which is itself at an Altitude of 3600m.
Wind chill rating: Medium
Alpine type climbing at high altitudes along with quite long periods of stable weather conditions provides superb mountaineering. However, high winds and heavy snowfall along with much lower temperatures than normal can catch teams out. Good quality and lightweight gear should be selected to provide effective windproof and waterproof protection along with lightweight high-mountain down insulation. Many expeditions take place in June and July and the equipment here is selected for this period.
