Muztagh Ata in the Chinese province of Xinjiang is considered a test ground for those considering the 8000m peaks. This is a very big and remote Mountain. Physical challenges can include cold windy days in very deep snow. It is now normal to utilize snowshoes to gain access to the high snowfields.

Camels or horses are often used to transport equipment to the Yam Bulak Glacier. Two or three further advanced camps may be required. Lightweight high mountain sleeping bags and clothing are recommended. As usual with very high altitude mountaineering, two sleeping bags will be required. Those recommended here are for the highest camps on the mountain.
The normal period to attempt this peak is July and August.
