Weather

Rainfall in the High Atlas mountains is considerably higher between the months of October and April. February and March being the worst months. This usually falls as snow above 1400m in the winter. The snowline retreats to 3000m in the Spring. Warmer periods deliver wet and windy conditions.

Wind chill rating: Moderate

Gear Notes

The refuges are at approximately 3200m, so well above the snowline. Mules and porters are used to carry equipment in. Nightime temperatures are usually below freezing. The refuges are fairly basic and damp. Condensation levels can be troublesome. Summit day requires a good level of fitness and it is best to go light. The sleeping bag primarily needs to be warm and comfortable with water-resistant outer. Weight isn't an issue. Down jacket should ideally be light. Good quality wind and waterproof shells are vital.
