Description

Part of the Desert Race Collection, designed with desert racing in mind. In the MdS 40°C race days can give way to 4°C nights in which warmth plays a vital role in recovery for the next day's challenge. Maximising these item's warmth/weight ratio has been central to developing this collection, to meet the needs of both elite competitors and those who simply want to finish.

The PHD Ultra Pullover has been a favourite of racers for many seasons. Here we’ve made a super lightweight version for desert races paying particular attention to the required level of insulation for sleeping in. With the use of our new 7X (7 denier) fabric, 950 fillpower down, and stitch through construction for weight saving, the Desert Race Pullover is an exceptionally flexible piece of kit.

The Race Stuff Sac is a race-specific Stuff Sac with attachment points to strap to the outside of a rucksack. It can be purchased separately or added to your order as an option.

Use with the Desert Halfbag, to create an incredibly light & flexible sleep system rated to +3°C. Buy as a package to get 10% off.

Only available until 31st March.

Technical

Ultralight 7X fabric (weight: 22 gsm)

7X is our new sheer-light 7 denier fabric. An exquisitely fine rip-stop nylon, 7X is incredibly light, highly wind-resistant and has first-rate down proofing. This fabric helps us create the very lightest of gear in the PHD range. Of course the lighter the fabric the lighter the sleeping bag or down clothing, and the less space it takes up in your rucksack. This fabric is so light it actually helps to allow even greater lofting of the down too. Order samples of this fabric & just pay the postage.

950 Fillpower Down

A newcomer to our range. European goose of rare quality. A high value alternative at the top levels of performance. More on our down insulation.

Sizing

Standard clothing sizing chart

Weight shown is for medium (M) size.

The PHD Sizing Chart below is based on measurements without clothing, exactly the way you would buy a shirt, a sweater or a pair of trousers. A 42" (107cm) chest means that your bare chest uninflated measures 42". Inside Arm is measured from armpit to wrist-bone and Inside Leg from crutch to ankle bone. If you find that you fall between (or across) these sizings, please contact us and we will quote you for modifications needed. Modifications cannot be made to sale items, bargain box items or other products not offered at full price. And if you are supplying us with your measurements, it is always useful for us to know your height, even when you are only buying a jacket.

Reviews

"We had a couple of nights when the wind picked up and the sand blew. When this happened I was grateful for being able to pull the sand sheet on the half bag up over my head and use the drawstring to keep the sand out."
Gareth Scobie (2016 Marathon des Sables competitor).

"For me the half bag and pullover was perfect, probably the best bit of kit I bought. To be wearing the top half as a jacket in the evening, then slip into the lower half was simplicity itself. It was plenty warm enough, even on the colder nights, and the hood served well as a cushion so I could just lay my head on my pack and to muffle my ears against the inevitable night noises."
Dain Jensen (2016 Marathon des Sables competitor).

"All in all a fantastic product that was well worth the money. I love the storage bag to attach it to the race pack - that worked very well to tidy it up and keep it out of the way. A great product and everyone else in the tent wished they had done the same thing."
Mark Craster (2017 Marathon des Sables competitor).

"I loved the PHD half bag and pullover combination. It worked brilliantly and I'd recommend it to others in a heartbeat."
Thomas Meakin (2016 Marathon des Sables competitor).

"I have never used a sleeping system like it, a completely superb bit of kit.

The conditions this year were tricky ranging from around 2 degrees to 15 (at night) the bag kept me comfortable at the lower end (with silk liner) and also comfortable with no jacket at the higher end (no soggy interior). How it did this I have no idea, but it did. Effectively I was comfortable in the bag every night regardless of temp.

The jacket worked very well as a wind smock during the evening and was very comfy to sleep in, once again the material was tough and remained unblemished.

The entire system was easy to pack into one stuff sack and worked well as part of my overall kit inventory. It was as small as it could be."
Jamie Hancox (2016 Marathon des Sables competitor)

"The bag and jacket were both very good...overall I’d recommend this to anyone wanting a warm jacket for the MDS"
James Gillies (2016 Marathon des Sables competitor).

"Overall, your desert combo product performed well and met my (high) expectations. Best piece of kit I brought. We had a mix of warm and cold evenings, with a couple blowing sand storms. Combo kept me in comfortable range throughout"
Scott Fischel (2016 Marathon des Sables competitor).

"I thought it was a great product"
Jon-Paul Brett (2016 Marathon des Sables competitor).

"It was brilliant. I loved the jacket as a pullover. I was one of two people in my tent with PHD systems. We agreed that system was the pick of the bunch."
Tim Collins (2017 Marathon des Sables competitor).

" It did exactly what I hoped it would do. It packed in well and kept me warm at night. I consider it a good purchase."
Niall Murphy (2017 Marathon des Sables competitor).
