A Guide to PHD's sizes

Clothing Sizing Chart

The PHD Sizing Chart below is based on measurements without clothing, exactly the way you would buy a shirt, a sweater or a pair of trousers. A 42 " (107cm) chest means that your bare chest uninflated measures 42 ". Inside Arm is measured from armpit to wrist-bone and Inside Leg from crutch to ankle bone.

Standard Clothing Sizes

Our standard sizes are S, M, L, and XL. XS is also available on Minimus, Sigma, Ultra, and Yukon jackets, vests and pullovers. Standard sized clothing is returnable and is dispatched within 5–20 working days.

Custom Clothing Sizes

If you find that you fall across our standard clothing sizings, our website now allows you to make adjustments to Body, Arm, and Leg sizes relative to Body Width/Waist size. These adjustments will accommodate arm, leg, and body lengths as small as XXXS and as large as XXXL. Adjustments can be two sizes larger or smaller than your Body Width/Waist size. For example, a pair of custom-sized trousers/pants with a medium (M) waist can have a XS, S, M, L, or XL inside leg. Find out more about these Custom Size Clothing options. Please note: modifications cannot be made to sale items, bargain box items or other products not offered at full price. Custom-sized clothing is not returnable, takes longer to be made (up to 45 days to dispatch), and customer discount cannot be applied.

Allowances:

  • Down Jackets, Pullovers, Vests, Down Suits: sized to fit over thermal underwear & fleece.
  • Down Trousers & Salopettes: sized to fit over thermal underwear &/or climbing trousers.
  • Shell Jackets: sized to fit over thermal underwear & fleece or light down clothing (e.g. Minimus Jacket): to cover thick down clothing, go up one size.
  • Shell Trousers & Salopettes: sized to fit over thermal underwear &/or outdoor trousers.
  • Shell Suits: D-type suits will fit over down clothing of the same named size: F-type suits will only fit over thermals and fleece.

N.B. PHD clothing is unisex.

Sleeping Bag Sizes

For your sleeping bag to perform at its best, it needs to fit. Too big means too much air space, which leads to getting cold. Too small means the down gets squashed and can’t insulate, which also leads to getting cold.

To make it simple, the measurements in our Sleeping Bag charts below are personal body measurements, not the exact dimensions of the bags themselves.

Using your measurements means we can build a bag to comfortably accommodate you, allowing you to pull in the hood and hunker down if needs be, without compressing the down against your head and feet. Our Sleep Systems concept of layered bags and clothing means that the outer layers need to be big enough for the inner ones: feel free to get in touch and we can advise on what sizes will work.

Additional Length and Width Options

Our Design Your Own Sleeping Bag system will allow you to design and buy 'Extra Short' and 'Extra Long' bags in addition to our standard sizes. You can also specify one of four widths (Slim, Standard, Wide, and Extra Wide).

Extra Long lengths and all four width fittings are also available as options on some of our standard Sleeping Bag ranges. For working out width fittings we talk about chest size but of course, everyone is a different shape: what we need is the widest part of the torso.

WIDTH CHEST
Slim 78-92cm (31" - 36" )
Standard 93-107cm (37" - 42" )
Wide 108-125cm (43" - 49" )
Extra wide 126-142cm (50" - 56" )

These sizes are approximate, to the nearest half size, because down boots are roomy and soft by nature and exact sizings are meaningless.
