Ultralight Sleeping Bags
"For quite a while now Pete Hutchinson Designs have been setting the pace in super light down bags"
Andy Kirkpatrick.
"As a veteran of 14 Karrimor mountain marathons I have found nothing to beat the Minim 400 Down sleeping bag."
John D.
With a focused design aim and enthusiasts for customers, PHD really enjoy making Ultralight sleeping bags. And we're good at it. The Minim Ultra heads our list for absolute lightness, but the Minimus and Piqolo are still superb (and frequent) choices for lightweight trips. For slightly colder conditions, such as on the Marathon des Sables, the Minim 400 has proved consistently popular, while the Combi is gradually proving its worth in extending the use of Ultralight bags into winter.
In 2008 we introduced our new 900 down. The extra performance from this new resource is astonishing. The loft of the 900 down is so markedly different, even from 800, that it is impossible to substitute it without reducing the fill weight or modifying the design of each bag. So at present we have made it the standard fill for our Ultra bag (now just 345gm) and an option on the Minimus Sleeping Bag. But watch this space: we'll be widening the range of ultralight sleeping bags using 900 down in the future.
