Mera Down Mitts

I'm really happy with the mitts, as they fit perfectly with and without thin liner gloves and they are really, really warm ... Great!
Robert P, Holland.

  • Superb 800 fillpower European Goose down
  • Robust, water-resistant 'P9' outer fabric
  • Stitch-through construction for lightness
  • Lycra cuff
  • Stuff sac (10 x 18 cm)*
  • Idiot loops for secure attachment

* Please note: we make our stuff sacs big enough to allow fairly easy stuffing rather than reducing clothing to the tightest minimum.

Simple down mitts, offering snug warmth at minimal weight. 100% wind-proof outers. A real boon for cold weather treks worldwide.

The wrist cords (idiot loops) provide a flexible, light, and detachable system to reduce the chance of these light down mitts being blown away by the wind.

P9 water-resistant fabric (weight: 75 gsm)

A heavily coated ripstop nylon. Totally windproof, very breathable and water-resistant and suitably robust.

800 fillpower down

Superb European goose down, selected for loft and liveliness.

"After using this mitt over the last two months, with 40 days of skiing, I feel I can give them an honest review. Although simple, these mitts get the job done and then some. I have successfully used them at -30°C while skinning/skiing and down to -40°C while testing my new PHD Xero Half Bag.

My favourite thing about the Mera Down Mitt is that I don't have to take them off to use my camera, phone, GPS, video equipment, etc. Touch screens on my smart phone/GPS work well. My camera on/off button, which is basically impossible to hit using my other gloves/mitts, is a breeze and using video equipment, like my gimbal, in cold weather has never been warmer. There has been many times in the past when I would not bother taking pictures/video because I didn't want to remove my big warm mitts on cold days; thanks to the Mera Down Mitts I no longer have to choose between warm hands and "getting the shot". Holding ski poles, ice axes and racking glacier gear (haven't done crevasse rescue just yet with them) is also simple while still providing overall warmth. This miracle seems to come down to the fact that you can crush/push the down out of the way when you need to apply direct/precise pressure and afterwards the down lofts back with ease.

When I first got these mitts I thought the wrist cords or "idiot loops" were way too long. But after using them in the field I'm now thinking of putting longer loops on my shell mitts. The longer loops make one of our most basic tasks easier, peeing. Before I would hope to aim away from my dangling mitts or have to take the loops off, which defeats their use. With the longer loops I can easily tuck the glove under my armpit and go about my business.

The Mera Down Mitts will be found in my pack regardless of trip type, time of year or weather forecast. At 96g there is no reason not to carry them and with the bonus of allowing me to perform with my equipment better I wouldn't think twice about purchasing these again."

"The Mera Down Mitts are possibly my favourite bit of gear at the moment. You just pull them on and it's instant warmth.

"They're fat with 800 quality down fill, reach way past my wrist, weigh only 96g a pair, have a simple lycra cuff, are super warm, pack tiny and there's just no reason or indeed excuse not to carry them. The fabric on the palm side is a little more supple and you can actually use your fingers enough to stop you taking them off and on all the time to adjust stuff.

"Genius [piece] of kit these. There are more technical PHD models available, and for expedition or harder use they'd be the choice, but for a balance of performance and light weight, the Mera Mitts ... are the ultimate joy bringers."
Petesy (Peter Macfarlane).

"I'm really happy with the mitts, as they fit perfectly with and without thin liner gloves and they are really, really warm. I'm sure they will help me with my wintercamping and walking (perhaps even cycling). Great!"

"I used them for the first time last week during a cross country skiing trip. They were amazing!"
